The Ministry of Power (MoP) has proposed an amendment to Rule 18 of the Electricity Rules, 2005, to clarify the legal status of Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The draft allows consumers, along with utilities and developers, to own, lease, or operate ESS. ESS can be independent or part of generation, transmission, or distribution.
