Finnish startup Polar Night Energy has launched the world’s largest sand battery in Pornainen, now operational through district heating firm Loviisan Lämpö. Delivering 1 MW thermal power with 100 MWh capacity, it uses 2,000 tons of crushed soapstone and can meet local heat demand for up to a month in summer.
