Japan plans to launch a national floating wind test centre in 2026 to advance offshore wind energy, following Mitsubishi's withdrawal from three major projects. FLOWRA, a consortium of 21 companies, is leading the effort, urging collaboration with Scottish and Norwegian test centres. With only 253 MW of offshore wind currently, Japan targets 45 GW by 2040.
