Gurin Energy has appointed Saft to supply a 1 GWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) for its 2GWh project in Soma, Fukushima, Japan. The first phase will deliver 240MW for four hours and marks Gurin’s entry into Japan’s energy storage market. The project aims to provide grid flexibility through ancillary services, renewable curtailment reduction, and energy trading, primarily under a tolling agreement.
