Germany’s Wind Shortfall Increases Fossil Fuel Reliance

Germany’s Wind Power output dropped 3% in 2024, with a 22% decline in the last quarter due to lower wind speeds. As a result, Germany increased power imports and fossil fuel use, leading to higher regional power prices across Europe. In January 2025, wholesale prices surged 47% compared to the previous year.
