China Installs World’s Largest 20 MW Offshore Wind Turbine

China has installed the world’s first 20 MW offshore wind turbine, 30 km off Fujian Province, led by China Three Gorges Co. The turbine generates enough electricity for 44,000 homes and overcomes deep-water, monsoon, and height challenges using advanced lifting and positioning technology. Fully domestic and 20% lighter per megawatt, it reduces foundation costs, produces 80 million kWh annually, displaces 24,000 tonnes of coal, and cuts 64,000 tonnes of CO₂, advancing China’s renewable energy goals.
