Uttarakhand has set an ambitious target to generate 2500 MW of solar power by 2027 supported by Uttarakhand State Solar Policy, 2023. The need for this initiative comes from the urgent necessity to combat climate change, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and enhance energy security. As India progresses towards a low carbon economy the state's move aligns with national goals to increase renewable energy capacity and meet growing energy demands sustainably. The impact of this initiative will have great influence for both Uttarakhand and the country at large. At the state level it will reduce air pollution, improve public health and provide a reliable power supply especially in rural and remote areas by promoting solar plus storage solutions, encouraging solar powered businesses, job opportunities and by building a supportive environment for entrepreneurs. The initiative provides incentives such as the 70% subsidy for installing rooftop solar power plants of up to 3kW capacity in households and more. This plan will also create numerous opportunities, for industries it will spur growth in solar technology, manufacturing, and installation sectors boosting economic development and job creation. By attracting investments and fostering innovation in renewable energy infrastructure this initiative positions Uttarakhand as a leader in sustainable development, contributing to India's goal of becoming a global renewable energy leader advancing nation’s environmental and economic goals while enhancing energy accessibility and resilience.
