NTPC REL gets 500MW hybrid Solar+ BESS Project from SECI Insight

The NTPC REL secures 500 MW solar project from Solar Energy Corporation of India on the tariff rate of Rs 3.52 KWh. The SECI conducted e-reverse auction for development of 2000 MW solar project along with the BESS of 1000MW/4000MWh. The company has develop BESS of 250 MW/1000 MWh along with solar contracted capacity.

The capacity won by NTPC will help the company achieve its target of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. Solar plant integrated with BESS will help address the variable nature of solar energy and ensure reliable supply of power during peak demand for four hours. The tariff discovered is competitive and represents positive response of investors in BESS integrated RE projects which is the need of the country to reduce reliance on fossil generated electricity. The continuous decrease in tariff discovered for RE projects makes these projects economically viable and boosts the installation of such projects aligning with India’s goal of increasing RE installed capacity. This capacity addition will bring opportunity for utilities to procure RE generated electricity at lower cost and also brings opportunity for BESS OEMs and suppliers due to increase in its adoption by RE investors and project developers.
