New Green Hydrogen plants to get 19.5 GW of RE feed by 2030 Insight

CTUIL has released Interim ISTS Rolling Plan 2029-30 determining the ISTS schemes to feed 19,500 MW of renewable energy to upcoming Green hydrogen and Green Ammonia plants in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh by 2030. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 15,629 crores with Gujarat receiving the highest ISTS drawl of 13,500 MW following Andhra Pradesh and Tamill Nadu with 3,000 MW each.

The process of Green Hydrogen and Ammonia production requires extensive power supply than any other fuels and with aim to make the process greener and sustainable integration of Renewable resources is required. The already existing RE infrastructure especially like Solar plants fails to meet power demand during non-solar hours and off-seasons thus, Inter-State connected system can cater this peak demand and ensure power availability to the industries, with ISTS systems areas of high Renewable energy generation could source the industries with extensive energy requirements to decarbonize their existing processes and choose greener alternative over conventional fossil fuels. Energy from different Renewable resources like Solar, Wind, Hydro and even BESS systems can be integrated together and fed to Green hydrogen manufacturing plants to conserve its zero-carbon emission footprint. The new interim plan by CTUIL for Inter-State transmission system will enhance the efficiency and transparency of the existing India RE electricity market which will be attracting new and key players to bid for renewable projects for electricity generation and transmission. This will further create opportunities for Green Hydrogen and Ammonia developers ensuring them sustainable green energy supply. The plan will overall promote India’s aim of becoming global Green Hydrogen export hub and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070 through RE generation.
