GAIL and AM Green Partner for 2.5 GW Solar-Wind Hybrid Projects in India Insight

GAIL India Limited and AM Green have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop Solar-Wind hybrid Renewable Energy projects in India, with a capacity of up to 2.5 GW. The agreement includes a study on utilizing 350 kilotonnes of CO2 from GAIL’s gas processing plants to produce eMethanol from Renewable Energy, supported by Energy Storage Systems for continuous power supply.

The MoU signed between GAIL and AM Green Partner aims to explore sustainable energy solutions by setting up hybrid projects integrated with PSP and processing of CO2 to generate eMethanol. This MoU will help increase RE capacity in the country and also support for round the clock supply of power by developing and integrating pump storage projects with hybrid projects which will result in uninterrupted power supply to the end users. This partnership helps reducing CO2 emissions as the CO2 from GAIL’s gas processing plants will be used to produce eMethanol which can be used as a fuel for vehicles, in fuel cells, for electricity generation offering hard-to-abate sectors like shipping a way to reach their sustainability goals. This brings solution to effectively utilize CO2 generated by GAIL and such methods provide effective solution for reusing CO2 which is the need of hour to help India transition towards greener energy and this could result in more such partnership between players in RE sector. This brings opportunity for industries to consume eMethanol generated and invest in this sector.
