The Uttar Pradesh government has approved two Centres of Excellence (CoE) for green hydrogen, to be established by university consortia in Kanpur and Varanasi–Gorakhpur under the UP Green Hydrogen Policy–2024. IIT Kanpur–HBTU and IIT-BHU–MMMUT will jointly lead the centres, sharing infrastructure, equipment, and academic supervision.
