A pioneering project in Manchester is exploring the potential of sewage waste as a sustainable feedstock for clean hydrogen production. Led by United Utilities and Levidian, the trial uses biogas from wastewater to generate hydrogen and super-material graphene. The process, supported by the UK government’s Hydrogen BECCS Innovation Programme, could produce up to 75,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually, enough to fuel over 40% of UK bus and coach journeys.
