Tamil Nadu is set to deploy a 1,500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) through Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd (TNGERCL). The project will store excess renewable energy, such as solar and wind, for use during non-solar hours, reducing grid stress and power purchase costs. Supported by 40% viability gap funding from the Union government, the BESS will release power during peak demand, complementing ongoing renewable energy expansion in the state.
