SSE Renewables plans a major Pumped Hydro Energy Storage project at Loch Fearna in Scotland, in Joint Venture with Gilkes Energy. This facility, potentially one of the UK’s largest, will help balance power supply from renewables like wind and solar. With a capacity of 1.8GW and 37GWh of energy storage, it is expected to begin in the mid-2030s.
