Norwegian renewables firm Scatec ASA has been chosen as the preferred bidder for a 123 MW/492 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Africa’s Free State Province. The Haru BESS project, costing ZAR 2.2 billion (USD 123 million), will support grid balancing under a 15-year contract with the National Transmission Company.
