NTPC plans to expand operating capacity from ∼91 GW currently (17% of India's 550 GW grid) to 149 GW by 2032 including 60 GW renewable, and 244 GW by 2037 excluding storage — targeting over 20% of projected national capacity of ∼1,200 GW. Chairman Gurdeep Singh announced a Rs 16.86 lakh crore capex through FY37 across thermal, hydro, pumped storage, renewable, battery storage, coal mining and nuclear.
