Developer Kona Energy has received consent to build the 228MW/456MWh Smeaton BESS project in East Lothian, Scotland, enhancing grid resilience as the Torness nuclear station closes in 2028. With 75 battery arrays, the project aims to balance Scotland's wind generation and demand, reducing curtailment costs.
