Kerala government and KSEB are accelerating Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects to store low-cost daytime solar power for nighttime use. Rising night demand, high electricity prices, and declining hydro reservoir levels have caused power shortages and load-shedding. Projects at Mylatti and Sreekandapuram are being fast-tracked, while an Ernakulam pilot storage project has shown positive results.
