Iraq launches 300 MW Solar Power Plant in Karbala

Iraq has launched its first operational solar power plant in Karbala, generating 300 MW with 500,000 panels. This project addresses post-war electricity shortages worsened by reduced Iranian gas supplies. Spanning nearly 10 million square meters, it’s constructed by local companies. Additionally, TotalEnergies is building a 1,000 MW plant, while ACWA Power and Masdar plan two similar 1,000 MW facilities, enhancing Iraq’s renewable energy capacity and national power network.
