Indian Railways is exploring ways to reduce green hydrogen costs to expand hydrogen-powered train operations. The initial plan targets 35 trains on heritage and hilly routes where electrification is difficult. Hydrogen trains have already completed over 2,500 km of commercial operations since mid-July 2026.
