India’s EV manufacturing growth depends heavily on state-level policy design, according to an IISD report. While 33 of 36 states and UTs have EV policies, most focus on adoption rather than local manufacturing. This has led to low localisation, under 20% for key components like batteries and motors, increasing import dependence and supply risks.
