Spain's main electric utility company, Iberdrola plans to construct Western Europe's largest hydroelectric power plant, the Conso II in Ourense's Sil basin in Galicia. This €1.5 billion project, known as the "Giga battery," will use surplus solar energy to pump water between reservoirs, generating 4,000 GWh of renewable energy annually and provide a significant reserve of storable energy.
