Italian energy company Eni acquires Neptune Energy for $4.9bn, the largest cash deal in European oil and gas in a decade. Neptune produces oil and gas in 8 countries, Eni is to acquire for $2.6bn, and subsidiary Vår Energi is to acquire Norwegian operations for $2.3bn. Eni aims to transition to renewables but sees Neptune's gas fields as a strategic fit.
