Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved Rs14,500 crore viability gap funding for 92 GWh grid-scale storage over FY27-31: 60 GWh pumped hydro storage, 30 GWh BESS and 2 GWh alternative technologies. Total investment is Rs97,600 crore, 170% of current grid-scale storage, to meet 411 GWh requirement by 2031-32.
