Over 70% of successful projects in the UK’s first long-duration energy storage (LDES) scheme window use lithium-ion battery energy storage systems (BESS). Ofgem selected 77 projects totaling 28.7GW capacity, with minimum eight-hour durations, scheduled for 2030 and 2033 operations. Lithium-ion BESS represents 70.
