BASF has commissioned Germany's largest proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer at its Ludwigshafen site. This 54-megawatt electrolyzer is designed to produce zero-carbon hydrogen, with an annual capacity of up to 8,000 metric tons. The project integrates renewable energy into chemical production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 72,000 metric tons per year.
