Torrent Power Wins 450 MW Wind-Solar Contract Insight

Torrent Power Limited (TPL) has petitioned the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) to adopt a tariff of ₹3.65 per unit, discovered through competitive bidding for 450 MW of Grid-Connected Wind-Solar Hybrid Power. This move aims to meet Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets & aligns with national Renewable Energy goals. GERC approved the tariff for TPL's Power Purchase Agreement.

Torrent Power has signed the PPA for the purchase of power at a tariff of ₹3.65 per unit, discovered through competitive bidding for 450 MW of Grid-Connected Wind-Solar Hybrid Power as a part of its efforts to meet the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets specified by the commission. The 450 MW project adheres to the rule of 2:1 ratio of wind to solar technologies so as to increase the capacity utilization factor of the plant by integrating more wind generated energy due to its better stability than solar. The tariff rates discovered for solar-wind hybrid projects as seen from current trends are slightly higher due to a shortage of wind turbines and a rise in the cost of wind projects but the tariff is expected to decrease in the upcoming years as the supply of wind turbines improves at lower cost. This project will help meet country’s broader goal of increasing the RE capacity addition and also create opportunity for more investment in the wind-solar hybrid projects.
