First oil wells are drilled by Total Energies for a major project in Uganda.
As part of a massive project that has been denounced by rights and environmental organizations. It has begun drilling oil wells in Uganda. A $10 billion contract was inked last year by the French oil giant and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation to build oilfields in Uganda and transport the petroleum there via a 1,445-kilometer pipeline to Tanga, Tanzania's port on the Indian Ocean.
