Following the departure of major European and American oil and gas companies, the local governor of Russia's Pacific island of Sakhalin has invited Chinese and Indian energy businesses to use the region's energy resources. Since the beginning of what the Kremlin refers to as a "special military operation" in Ukraine last year, Russia has been developing tighter political connections with Asia.
