An act of "sabotage" resulted in an oil spill into an Amazon basin river, when it struck a state oil pipeline in Ecuador. "The emergency has been controlled," declared Petroecuador, which had momentarily halted operations and dispatched staff to contain and clean up the spill. Oil company workers placed containment barriers on the bank and across the rivers to stop the spread.
