Scottish wind farms received £380 million in constraint payments in 2024 for not generating electricity, an increase of more than a third compared to 2023, marking the highest payout since the scheme began. Wind farm operators have been given £1.86 billion to switch turbines off since the controversial compensation scheme began in 2010.
