The Philippine Department of Energy has mandated that all variable renewable energy (VRE) projects of 10 MW or more integrate energy storage systems (ESS) equivalent to at least 20% of the plant’s capacity. The framework encourages grid-forming capabilities to enhance system stability and reliability while supporting higher renewable penetration.
