LG Energy Solution and Seoul National University have developed a method to stabilize next-generation Lithium Manganese-Rich (LMR) batteries for EV use, published in Nature Communications on September 7. LMR uses low-cost manganese without cobalt and offers high energy density, but oxygen oxidation during charging causes gas and degradation, critical in large-format cells.
