The Italian Ministry of Environment approved six stand-alone energy storage projects totaling 648 MW across Melfi, Sessa Aurunca, Tuscania, Bisaccia, Benevento, and Andria. These private developments bypass environmental impact assessments under Legislative Decree 387/2003. The largest, a 280 MW facility in Melfi, will connect via a 380 kV substation.
