India may introduce an on-tap facility for EV manufacturing under the SMEC scheme, allowing foreign automakers like Tesla to test the market before investing. The guidelines will be finalized soon, with applications opening next month. The scheme permits EV imports at reduced duties if firms invest $500 million in local production.
