India will get its first 100% hydrogen-based DRI pilot plant, a Rs 207-crore national project led by CSIR-IMMT with in-principle approval from the Ministry of Steel and MNRE. With Rs 113 crore support under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the 20-tonne-per-day vertical shaft furnace plant, targeted by August 2029, will demonstrate green steelmaking using India's low-grade hematite ore.
