India is increasing investment in battery energy storage to reduce solar power curtailment and manage renewable generation surpluses. About 11% of solar power generated during India’s hottest months in 2026 was lost to grid curtailments, despite record electricity demand. Rapid photovoltaic capacity additions have created a daytime supply glut, particularly during summer when solar radiation is strongest.
