India has begun constructing its first green hydrogen-powered ships, with Cochin Shipyard and Mazagon Dock each building one vessel using indigenous hydrogen fuel cell technology. This initiative supports the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which has allocated ₹115 crore until 2025–26 for ship design, trials, infrastructure, and pilot projects.
