Researchers at IIT Madras have developed an affordable, indigenous alkaline seawater electrolyser that produces hydrogen without using rare metals. This innovation addresses both freshwater scarcity and the high cost of current hydrogen production technologies. Using transition bimetal catalysts, it resists seawater corrosion and prevents hypochlorite formation.
