India emits 2.54 tons of CO2 per ton of crude steel in comparison to global average of 2.54 making the steel sector responsible for 12% of the emissions. Green H2 has potential to replace carbon in steelmaking but its high cost remains a major obstacle. The MoS is working on a Green Public Procurement Policy to facilitate the use of Green H2 in public infra projects to bring down carbon emissions.
