The Central Electricity Authority has proposed technology-specific safety standards under the 2023 Safety Regulations for renewable projects. For solar, Regulation 121 mandates earthing per IS 3043/IS 732, lightning/over-voltage protection, combiner-box surge protection with arc-extinguishing, and PV module qualification under IS 14286, IS 16228, IS/IEC 61730-2 and PID testing.
