IIT Bombay researchers have discovered a promising method to decarbonize the steel industry using hydrogen-based direct reduction of iron (H-DRI). This process replaces coal with hydrogen to convert iron ore into steel, releasing water vapor instead of carbon dioxide. The team, led by Professor Arnab Dutta, has developed sustainable catalysts for generating green hydrogen through water electrolysis, making the steel production process more environmentally friendly.
