Assam has announced a ₹77,353 crore power sector investment plan to develop 8,457 MW generation capacity through hydro, solar, thermal and energy storage projects. The state aims to transform into a power-surplus state and become Northeast India’s green energy hub. Key initiatives include 4,900 MW pumped storage projects, a 3,200 MW thermal plant, new hydropower projects, and major grid expansion with 15,000 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 120 substations over five years.
