GERC Sets ₹2.84/kWh Tariff for Small Wind Projects Insight

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has set a ₹2.84/kWh tariff for wind projects under 10 MW, valid until March 2027. The GERC has set a fixed tariff rate in the competitive market range to promote installations of small wind projects. Small wind projects will bring in investments from small and medium investors and pre-determined levelized tariffs will help these get long-term fixed revenue eliminating financial risk in the future. This effort by GERC will promote small wind projects that require less capex and less area for installation and can be easily deployed along the highway or in scarcely populated areas. These projects will be more suitable for off-grid installations ass they can be deployed in areas where transmission through the grid is difficult by creating a microgrid. The policy ensures that these projects are installed as fast as possible so that the energy can be procured by DISCOMs. This initiative will encourage investments from all over the country and increase the installed capacity of wind energy in the country. This brings opportunity for investment as well as for the small wind turbine manufacturers in the country and small and medium scale investors to invest in wind capacity in the country.
