The U.S. Department of Energy awarded $12 million to the Lewis Ridge Pumped Storage project, which will be one of the first pumped storage hydropower facilities built in over 30 years, utilizing former coal mine land in Kentucky. The project will provide 287 MW capacity, create 1,500 construction jobs, and support local businesses.
