Researchers at the University of Michigan, with General Motors and Imperial College London, developed an intelligent battery management system that uses existing charging data to identify when silicon in EV batteries is most vulnerable. The system dynamically adjusts battery temperature—heating during silicon activity and cooling during graphite-dominant phases—to reduce degradation and potentially double battery lifespan.
