Researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science & Technology (AIST) have achieved a world-record 12.28% efficiency in a copper gallium selenide (CuGaSe₂) solar cell. The indium-free wide-bandgap chalcopyrite absorber, enhanced with aluminum back-surface fields, showed improved open-circuit voltage and reduced interfacial recombination.
