India’s ₹37,500 crore Coal Gasification Scheme aims to transform coal into syngas for producing chemicals, fertilizers, methanol, ammonia and cleaner fuels, reducing dependence on imports and strengthening energy security. The initiative promotes surface coal gasification and explores its potential to support low-cost hydrogen production, including blue hydrogen through Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS).
