Ahmedabad's citizens discharged a whopping 15.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere in the year 2021–2022, resulting in a per capita load of 2.1 tonnes of CO2. Ahmedabad will need to invest Rs 4.4 lakh crore in improving its infrastructure and systems over the next 47 years in order to become a net zero city and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
